Community Impact at Sysco Canada

Global Good: Feed, Serve, Give

Sysco Canada’s approach to Community Impact aligns to our Purpose of Connecting the world to share food and care for one another. Through our Global Good strategy, we aim to generate $500 million worth of good in our global communities through philanthropy, volunteerism, and food donations. We support our communities by focusing on combating hunger and local disaster relief.

Sysco supports hunger relief efforts in the communities we serve, strengthening local partnerships and ensuring our impact is visible and meaningful. Our strategic nonprofit partnerships allow for nourishment and support for those in need, helping communities when it matters most.

Sysco's Global Good vision for community impact is encapsulated through three pillars: Feed, Serve, and Give

Feed

We donate food and partner with community organizations around the world to ensure food-insecure families receive healthy and nutritious meals. Each year, Sysco donates millions of meals and supports hunger relief organizations through various programs.

Feed

We’re dedicated to reducing food insecurity by donating meals and products to communities in need. We partner with food banks, food rescues, and hunger-relief organizations to ensure surplus products are redirected to those facing food insecurity rather than going to waste.

Nourishing Communities

Sysco Canada’s regional Global Good Committees partner with local food banks and pantries to meet the needs of local communities within our four operating regions – BC, Prairies, Ontario, and Eastern.

Strengthening Local Food Systems

Through our Global Good “Feed” pillar, we strive to not only alleviate hunger but also strengthen local food systems, ensuring that nutritious meals reach vulnerable populations.

Serve

Through Sysco’s Global Good “Serve” pillar, we recognize volunteering as a powerful way to strengthen communities and fight hunger. We encourage colleagues nationwide to dedicate time and skills to local organizations that combat hunger. Volunteer initiatives range from packing and distributing meals to supporting food banks and community kitchens, creating hands-on opportunities for colleagues to make a tangible difference.

Serve

By fostering a culture of service, we aim to make an impact beyond financial contributions by building deeper connections between colleagues and the communities we serve. Sysco Canada launched our signature volunteer initiative, Purpose Month, in 2022 – and due its strong impact on the community and colleague engagement, the program went global in 2023!

Purpose Month

Purpose Month was established to help combat hunger in Canada by donating our time to charities focused on food security from coast to coast to coast. During this dedicated month, colleagues across the country rally together to volunteer thousands of hours in support of food banks, community kitchens, breakfast clubs, and food rescues. Our collective efforts contribute to Sysco’s Global Good, which aims to generate $500USD million worth of good in global communities, including $22 million in Canada, by 2025.

Engaging Colleagues

Each year, we have a goal to mobilize colleagues from coast to coast to coast to volunteer thousands of hours in support of food banks, community kitchens, breakfast clubs, and food rescues across the nation. Colleagues participating in Purpose Month will have a chance to be recognized in the Sysco Gives Back Volunteer Recognition Program, which celebrates and recognizes colleagues who donate their time to charitable organizations.

Supporting the Communities We Serve

We’ve partnered with organizations across the nation to combat hunger in local communities – and we’re grateful for their efforts in helping to feed our neighbours. As we reach out our helping hands and hearts, we know that our collaborative support creates real impact.

Give

We partner with national and local charitable organizations to provide funds and aid in hunger relief. Through our signature Nourishing Neighbours program, a portion of proceeds from each Sysco branded case sold in local communities is donated back to charitable organizations in those communities.

Give

It’s estimated that one in three seniors and one in six children are food insecure – which means they don’t know where their next meal will come from. Through our signature Nourishing Neigbours program, and with the dedication of passionate Sysco colleagues and community partners, we’re committed to changing that.

Nourishing Neighbours

With our signature Nourishing Neighbours program, we’re supporting organizations in our communities that work to eliminate hunger and make nutritious food available where it’s needed most. This is one way that we’re Connecting the world to share food and care for one another.

Food Accessibility in the North

In 2025, we developed a national partnership with Second Harvest – specifically focused on supporting Indigenous communities in the remote North, where food insecurity is most prevalent and persistent. We will give 15% of all Nourishing Neighbours donations to Second Harvest to support food security in  the North for the next five years.
