Community Impact at Sysco Canada

Sysco Canada’s regional Global Good Committees partner with local food banks and pantries to meet the needs of local communities within our four operating regions – BC, Prairies, Ontario, and Eastern.

Through our Global Good “Feed” pillar, we strive to not only alleviate hunger but also strengthen local food systems, ensuring that nutritious meals reach vulnerable populations.

Purpose Month was established to help combat hunger in Canada by donating our time to charities focused on food security from coast to coast to coast. During this dedicated month, colleagues across the country rally together to volunteer thousands of hours in support of food banks, community kitchens, breakfast clubs, and food rescues. Our collective efforts contribute to Sysco’s Global Good, which aims to generate $500USD million worth of good in global communities, including $22 million in Canada, by 2025.

Each year, we have a goal to mobilize colleagues from coast to coast to coast to volunteer thousands of hours in support of food banks, community kitchens, breakfast clubs, and food rescues across the nation. Colleagues participating in Purpose Month will have a chance to be recognized in the Sysco Gives Back Volunteer Recognition Program, which celebrates and recognizes colleagues who donate their time to charitable organizations.​

We’ve partnered with organizations across the nation to combat hunger in local communities – and we’re grateful for their efforts in helping to feed our neighbours. As we reach out our helping hands and hearts, we know that our collaborative support creates real impact.

With our signature Nourishing Neighbours program, we’re supporting organizations in our communities that work to eliminate hunger and make nutritious food available where it’s needed most. This is one way that we’re Connecting the world to share food and care for one another.

Through Nourishing Neighbours, proceeds from each local sale of Sysco-brand products are donated to local charitable organizations. A minimum of 75% of these donations directly support charities combating hunger and rescuing food.

With the support of Sysco Canada’s regional Global Good Committees, our operating regions – BC, Prairies, Ontario, and Eastern – donate Nourishing Neighbours funds to local hunger relief organizations.

In 2025, we developed a national partnership with Second Harvest – specifically focused on supporting Indigenous communities in the remote North, where food insecurity is most prevalent and persistent. We will give 15% of all Nourishing Neighbours donations to Second Harvest to support food security in  the North for the next five years.
